Viva La Musica VT was formed to fulfill a need for Vermont students. While there are indeed groups that tour and perform at schools throughout the state, there are not a lot of opportunities where classical singing and, in particular, opera, are offered to give students an experience on which to add to their musical palette. In addition, in the community performances in the state there is an under-representation of Vermont artists, with almost complete deference being given to those from out of state.
Viva was formed to offer the opportunity to professional caliber musicians- in particular, Vermont singers- to perform throughout the state in an effort to teach students about these art forms. Specifically, Viva aims to bring performances to areas where there are not as many opportunities for this time of enrichment.
Our goal is to advocate for the importance and value of music through education; not only as an entertainment form, but as a way of expression, to teach that opera is not just for the elite, that there is a great deal of talent native to this wonderful state, and that people can make a living doing what they love.
Viva counts on the dedication of its volunteers, the vision of its founder, and the generosity of sponsorships and donations provided by individuals and corporations who realize how important the arts are not only as a form of entertainment, but as a way of life.
