How Much will it cost?
|
One of the biggest concerns many schools have is whether or not these assemblies are affordable. How much does it cost is typically the second question we get asked, after being asked what we offer.
Using professional musicians, as I am sure that you can imagine, is not inexpensive and, I am sure you would agree, that performers should be able to make a living doing what they are trained to do. So that we can both take care of our performers and our schools, we partner with Vermont businesses to bring these programs to you at a much reduced rate. Our goal is to have enough lead time to schedule in advance and find sponsors to fund the assembly. The sooner a performance is scheduled, the more time we have to make that happen. Keep in mind the costs that are incurred by taking a field trip to a cultural event. Not only is there the ticket price, but there is the cost of buses, the hassle of permission slips, and deciding who can and can't go. With a performance at the school, it is much easier to get the whole school involved, or just a small group, if that is more desirable. |
What does the program offer?

Viva La Musica uses professional musicians, so you are getting a high quality of performance for your assembly. In addition, our mission is to use Vermont artists whenever they are right for the role. What this means is that there is an inherent investment in working with our schools, in cultivating understanding and cooperation in our students. This interest in Vermont students creates engagement and perhaps even camaraderie that may not exist when performers from outside of New England are used.
Viva provides an information packet that can be used by teachers to prepare students to get the most out of the performances. Included in the packet is information about the composer and about the piece. We include information about the performers, a plot summary, points of interest regarding the piece. We also provide ideas for leading up to the performance that teachers may choose to integrate into lesson plans. Each performance is followed by a Question and Answer where students can ask questions so that they can understand the performers, the music or the plot better. We find that this humanizes the event, and also leads to better appreciation and learning because of the interaction. |
